Estate Sale

Our old neighbor next door passed away a couple of months ago, and ever since then there have been a lot of his family members over in the house non-stop on the weekends. We were quite curious as to what was going on.

So a few days ago the guy who normally mows the lawn next door came over and informed us of the estate sale that they would be having this weekend. It got me thinking, what exactly is an estate sale? I have came up with my own definition of one.

Estate Sale: A place where the family of a deceased person can sell off all their worldly possessions to other old people who will end up passing away and having their family selling their stuff (which was mostly bought at other estate sales) in another estate sale.

The fact of the matter is that these old people really don't need the things they get from estate sales, however, they get them anyway. I guess this is one way to get old things to continue to go down throughout the generations of time.

We, however, did venture over and wound up getting.......
          - An awesome pair of 1960's binoculars. They're super neat and came with a cool case. (Too bad we didn't have them when we went to St. Louis and were in our 20th floor hotel room.)
          - A 2 ton floor jack. I know this isn't as cool, but it definitely comes in handy when your husband does his own oil changes!

So the moral of the post is: Estate Sales are cool, so long as you don't end up having to get rid of the things that someone else has bought from them.

  1. First- I love the idea of this blog! So fun! I hope you keep it up, I'm sure you will have lots of good stories and advice and everything else. Great idea!

Second- I agree, estate sales are for old people to buy more stuff to be sold later in their own estate sale. But... sometimes you can find real treasures! You can find some really neat pieces of old furniture that can be redone and stuff, and one of my favorite things is when you get to look though old jewelry, there can be really neat stuff in there!
